not your average microsoft

I saw a site that was featuring 60 examples of breathtaking typography, so naturally I was sucked in. Here are some of my faves:

The font isn't anything to write home about, but it's a shout out to
my wrist tat (agape) and I like the linking of the letters.

So creative and fun, huh? See the rest here

map attack

Inspired by something I saw on another blog (can't remember which because it was so long ago), I'd like you to meet the new addition in our home:

Ta da!

That's not our exact door, but the concept remains. Using an old atlas, I backed our paned glass door with el mapa and it looks fancier. Our door unfortunately doesn't have a crystal knob leading to a bright beautiful sitting room, but it DOES have a brass knob leading into the basement laundry area. Same? Or on the other side, our dark bedroom with no windows and a maroon rug. Same? No. I know, but it certainly dresses it up a notch.

So here's another gem I found along the same lines and I can't quite tell how I feel about it.

Definitely a unique idea, but maybe only in a really simple room with simple decor and such. That busy's up the joint real fast, in my opinion. What are your thoughts? I think this photo does it well, hence my attention to it, but I think it's a fine line they walk. Would you ever do it? Or compliment it if you saw it?

Greening your Kitchen

While perusing on Vegetarian Times lately, I read an awesome article called 10 Ways to Green Your Kitchen Routine and it had some stellar ideas - some that we already try to incorporate and some news ones that make oodles of sense. I've included the main list below and , but check out the whole article here! It's an insightful read.

1. choose energy efficient cookware: cast iron, stainless steel and copper are the winners.
2. downsize to smaller appliances: don't choose the conventional oven when the toaster will do.
3. multitask in the over: let your pie bake with a friend and use both racks.
4. use the right burner: makes all the difference in the world - size really does matter, friends.
5. spread things out: using a larger surface area can heat things through more completely, faster!
6. resist the urge to open the oven door: use the light to sneak a peek instead.
7. take it outside: don't heat your kitchen and then crank the AC - use the grill or your slow cooker outside.
8. finish with residual heat: I do this all the time and it works great. Turn the burner or stove off a few minutes early because the heat will certainly linger to finish the job.
9. make more leftovers: reheating takes much less time and energy than starting from square one.
10. go raw: fruit, veggies, sushi anyone? yes please.

So thank you, Veg Times, for thinkin' green. Other things you can try?

orderliness

I am craving some major orderliness at the homestead. We're getting there, slowly but surely. But in the meantime, the blender shouldn't be living next to the cereal. It's just not right, I tell you.

We don't have much (at all) by way of cabinetry, so a decent-sized pantry is what we're up against. Can someone come and make my kitchen look as organized as these?

Just kidding, don't touch it. I want to do it.

But these sure are pretty.

I'm inspired. We'll do the pantry after we're done with the bedroom, the living room, the array of more intrusive piles scattered about...

old married lady.

My loving mother has been calling me an old married lady these days and let me tell ya - I've been feeling that way lately. Many friends are asking, "how's married life?!" and the truth is, it's so wonderful! Life feels so normal living with Will, cooking with Will, waking up with Will - but we are two of the most exhausted people ever. What's with us? Is being married just an exhausting thing? Are we still catching up from all of the wedding-planning stress? Who knows.

We had an absolutely fantastic day. It was gorgeous and my grandparents' yard was transformed into the most perfect backyard wedding venue. The weather was flawless and the yard was littered with our closest friends and family who came from all over - from Illinois, from Pennsylvania, from Australia - I know, we're a big deal. But it was so laid back and enjoyable, and we can't wait to see the highlights from our video and more of our photos. I'll post more fun things as soon as I've got 'em :)

But in the meantime, the hub and I are like grandma and grandpa. We're back in the monotonous day-to-day life of full-time work only to come home, make dinner, and still have unpacking to do in the apartment. We're trying to catch up on sleep, but man are we dragging. Is this normal to feel after getting married? We've heard from some people that they basically went into hibernation for two months so they could adjust... wouldn't that be nice. Just take an extended vacation from work and all responsibilities for a while. Ugh. Well, can't win 'em all. Until then, we'll just keep pushing through and sorting through our piles and piles of belongings. Our to sell pile is growing. Anyone need a twin mattress and or a wake board?

Below is a photo of me and the hub. I told you, this life is certainly taking it's toll.
